16.09.2009 - Total control – encryption solution now also controls file access
The Applied Security GmbH (apsec) has added numerous new features to the new release of its encryption solution fideAS® file enterprise. Users and administrators can now effectively control the file access of any application, to mention just one.
First and foremost, the software solution still features its established and reliable encryption qualities (resource-efficient file and folder encryption as a background process with a high degree of system reliability) which have been improved by many new details. It is the core concept of the apsec philosophy to run the entire encryption and decryption process as unobtrusive for the user as possible. The software integrates perfectly with existing IT systems, rendering any user training unnecessary.
For the new major release, apsec has again thoroughly revised its existing client-server concept. This revision provides for another decisive reduction in network load as compared to the previous version and therefore increases the speed and the reliability of the system even further. Almost every encryption and decryption process is now performed locally, thereby optimizing the use of system resources. The Private Agent, responsible for the processing of the data, runs as a background process on the user’s computer.
This design of the security concept also allows for the integration of the apsec encryption into virtually any system configuration with only a minimum of effort. Network and security administration lie in different hands. Within the network, user groups with different levels of privilege as defined by the security policy can be established. Another new feature of fideAS® file enterprise 4.0 is its compatibility with Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS). DFS decouples the path names used in networks from the physical location of the files. Furthermore, fideAS® file enterprise now also features encryption of offline folders in networks. This makes the apsec solution suitable for all types of networks – no matter which file server is being used (Windows, Linux, Samba etc.). Fully equipped like this, fideAS® file enterprise 4.0 provides ideal protection against data loss– on workstations, laptops and terminal servers as well as on mobile storage devices.
