Data Theft without end

Data leakage prevention solutions provide reliable protection

In the wake of the financial crisis, the term “data theft” has made third place in the “word of the year” contest. This vote proves once again that the lack of data protection still remains a major problem in many companies. And as the Visa card information of the Landesbank Berlin shows, the conventional archiving of data is especially insecure.

Because two hungry courier drivers wanted to cover up the theft of two “Christstollen” (German Christmas cakes), ten-thousands of credit card statements on microfiche ended up at the Frankfurter Rundschau (a major German newspaper). This incidental sequence of events shows once again that German companies are still too lax with sensitive customer data. At the end of the year 2008, which saw one data scandal after the other, too many German companies still do without adequate security measures. This is true for data on traditional media like paper or microfiche as well as for the vast majority of electronically stored data.

“And yet it is so easy to protect data stored and processed in computer systems from unauthorized access”, as Dr. Volker Scheidemann, head of marketing and product management at the Applied Security GmbH from Stockstadt explains. “Our data leakage prevention solution fideAS®® file enterprise encrypts data in the entire company network. And it does so without interfering with established workflows because it only runs as a background process.fideAS®® file enterprise secures all data on servers, local hard drives and mobile devices like USB flash drives and flash cards. And it therefore prevents the disclosure of valuable data even in case of a loss of the hardware.”
